Exemplars from the 2022 NCEA Level 1 pilot

On this page are the links to exemplars of student responses from the 2022 NCEA Level 1 pilot.  

The exemplars show student responses to achievement standards that did not undergo significant revision following evaluation of their performance in the 2022 pilot.

Where an exemplar would not have provided clear or accurate guidance to piloting teachers in 2023,  a sample assessment item indicative of the 2023  ‘live’ assessment has been made available where possible.

This exemplar and sample material should not be used for assessment in 2024. Teachers should refer to the latest published version of the achievement standards on the Ministry of Education website to guide their planning.

Exemplars from the 2023 pilot will be available on subject pages by May 2024.
